I definitely agree that objectivity is something a journalist strives for – although you may never actually achieve it. I believe transparency should be one of the pinnacle values in the journalism field, so everyone knows through which lens to view a story or point of view. But therein lies the rub. If everyone puts their biases and affiliations out in the open, people may not even read a story by a left leaning journalist – even if the story is objective in nature. The whole issue is unresolvable in my opinion. The diction someone uses can send a message that strays from objectivity. Sources journalists use can also show biases. People will debate this issue for as long as journalism exists – but I think transparency is key to getting as close as we can to reporting information that is not misleading.
